If you follow breaking news in the sneaker world then you’ll probably already be aware of the fact that Kanye West’s Grammy-worn Nike Air Yeezy samples were set to be auctioned by Sotheby’s – we even reported the story ourselves last week. The insanely-rare pair were offered up for grabs by private offers and were expected to reach around $1 Million USD, although it’s now been confirmed that the pair sold for $1.8 Million USD.
While this is a phenomenal sum, it’s worth noting that these are now the most expensive sneakers ever sold. The previous record was held by a pair of game-worn Air Jordan 1s which sold for $560,000 back in may 2020, so this new figure absolutely blows them out of the water!

The pair are a 1-of-1 piece and were famously worn by Mr West during his 2008 Grammys performance, where he performed “Hey Mama” and “Stronger”, sparking substantial hype around his upcoming work with Nike. When production models finally launched, this colourway was scrapped, increasing the rarity of the sample pair that were just auctioned.
They came complete with a laser-etched wooden box with exclusive Yeezy artwork designed by Kanye and mark Smith. here at The Sole supplier we love nothing more than these substantial six-figure sneaker sales, as it’s a true reflection of how important and culturally-relevant the sneaker scene has finally become.
